Gulu Made
GULU Made was born from an unlikely combination of high-end design expertise and a desire to bring hope to one of the world's most challenging places. Founded in Gulu, Uganda - ground zero in the decades-long civil conflict led by Joseph Kony - the company discovered something remarkable: a surprisingly large number of highly-skilled sewers, many of them women who were trained in the aftermath of the war as a means of rebuilding their lives and generating income.
Rather than simply manufacture elsewhere, the founders chose to root their business in this northern Ugandan town, turning what could have been just another bag company into something redemptive.
With bags designed in Boulder, Colorado and made in Gulu, Uganda, GULU Made's mission centers on creating great products that inspire customers to do good work, while simultaneously creating good work for the team members who make them.
Each backpack and bag represents more than functional design - it's proof that beautiful, durable products can emerge from partnership across continents and circumstances. The company transforms skilled hands that once knew conflict into creators of something practical and hopeful, connecting American consumers to Ugandan artisans through everyday objects built to last.
